Session of the working group on the project of Finnish-Russian Cross-Border University-CBUSession of the working group on the project of Finnish-Russian Cross-Border University-CBU took place in Petrozavodsk State University.
Representatives of faculties of Mathematics, Medicine, History, Forest Engineering, Political and Social Sciences, Directorate for international cooperation of PetrSU, as well as of the University of Joensuu (Finland) and St.-Petersburg State Polytechnical University have taken part in the session.

Meeting of teachers of the Faculty of Agriculture of PetrSU with the delegation of Agricultural Institute of Central Östrobothnia (Finland)A meeting of teachers of the Faculty of Agriculture with the delegation of Agricultural Institute of Central Östrobothnia (Finland) concerning traineeship of students of PetrSU on farms of Finland was held at Petrozavodsk State University.
Participants of the meeting have discussed opportunities of joint cooperation in the field of granting traineeship places to students of PetrSU as well as documentation of the project, number of students to work on probation, and the necessary level of preparation of young experts.

On November 26-27, University Frederico II (Italy) hosted the final international conference and a meeting of the working group within the ENDEAVOUR project.
PetrSU at the conference and the working meeting was represented by the Head of the Directorate for International Cooperation, the project head from PetrSU Lyudmila Kulikovskaya.
The project was carried out by a consortium of 18 universities (13 countries). Participants have summed up the 3-years long work and discussed new project ideas, such as, for example, preparation of the application for development and realization of the Endeavour Erasmus Mundus Master program in Entrepreneurship.

7th international seminar of Russian and Finnish universitiesOn November 17-18, University of Turku welcomed the 7th international seminar of Russian and Finnish universities.
Representatives of more than 50 educational institutions of Russia and Finland, as well as the Federal agency of the Russian Federation for Accreditation, Nordic Council of Ministers, Center of International Mobility (CIMO) have taken part in the seminar.
Head of the Directorate for International Cooperation ofPetrSU Lyudmila Kulikovskaya taken part in the seminar and presented a joint report there.

Closing of the international workshop conference Russia and Finland in a Multipolar World: 1809-2009Programmers of Petrozavodsk State Universuty, students of the Faculty of Mathematics Ilya Nikolaevskiy, Alexey Nikolaevskiy and Denis Denisov have won the World Semifinals of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) in the Northeastern Europe Region the Northeastern Europe Regional Contest.
The victory in the semifinal contest for Karelian programmers became the permit to the ACM-ICPC World Finals to be held on February 1-6, 2010 in Harbin (China)

International workshop conference Russia and Finland in a Multipolar World: 1809-2009In 2009 it turns 200 years since Finland was merged in the Russian Empire as the independent Grand Duchy of Finland. Processes of formation of the Finnish statehood and national consciousness are associated with this event.
The international workshop conference Russia and Finland in a Multipolar World: Years 1809-2009 devoted to this memorable date opened in Petrozavodsk State University on October 20. The conference is held under the auspices of the Government of the Republic of Karelia, the Council of State of Finland, the Russian Humanitarian Science Foundation and the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Meting of participants of the Joint Working Group in Education and Research (JWGER) of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region in PetrSUOn October 20, 2009 Petrozavodsk State University hosted the meeting of participants of the Joint Working Group in Education and Research (JWGER) of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region.
At the meeting there came representatives of universities of the Russian regions of the BEAR, namely Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions, the Republics of Komi, representatives of the Information Bureau of the Nordic Council of Ministers in St.-Petersburg. International partner universities participated in work of the Group in absentia.

Teachers of Summer University of NEOU of PetrSU try to diversify educational process and use unique opportunities of summer and Karelia teaching their classes.
Thus, on Friday, August 21, during the classed students went to the forest, to the park and museum exposition Fauna of Karelia. As a result of such classes students have enriched their vocabulary and horizons, improved their skills of informal conversation (monologue and dialogue) at discussion of features of flora and fauna of different regions of the world. Also students could discuss (in Russian) regional and world environmental problems and images of animals in Russian folklore and folklore of other peoples in Europe and Asia.

Visiting of sights of our republic, in opinion of the students, deserves the most close attention. Excursions to Kizhi island and Kivach reserve, to Karelian State Museum of Local History and Art Gallery Doll's House of Tatiana Kalinina has left a lasting impression. Students also plan to visit Marsial Waters and the island of Valaam. We hope, that such combination of the useful with the pleasing will let students to acquire new knowledge of our northern land and its wonderful history.

Participation of representatives of PetrSU in the First world congress on ecological historyScientists of the Research Laboratory for Local and Micro-History of Karelia operating at the Faculty of History of Petrozavodsk State University since 2004 under the direction of the Deputy Dean for Research and International Cooperation Associate Professor Irina Chernyakova have taken part in the First World Congress on ecological history which key subject was Local Livelihoods And Global Challenges: Understanding Human Interaction With The Environment.
The congress was held from August 3 to 8 in Copenhagen, Denmark, under the aegis of Roskilde University, Denmark, Malmo University, Sweden, and International Consortium Environmental History Organizations (ICEHO).

International workshop seminar "Wooden architecture as a phenomenon of national culture"International workshop seminar Wooden architecture as a phenomenon of national culture was held in Petrozavodsk State University.
During the seminar its participants have discussed both large-scale issues of preservation of wooden architectural heritage by example of implemented projects, and considered some particular issues of research of traditional wooden chapels in the Russian North, prevention of destruction of wooden monuments, classification of log constructions, etc.

During the research the expedition has discovered new petroglyphs on the plate which has broken off in time immemorial from the cape's ending under the influence of pressure of ice. Archeologists have managed to define the initial arrangement of stone plates with petroglyphs.

Summer school within the international masters program in history of the Finnish-Russian Cross-Border University (FRCBU)Petrozavodsk State university has launched summer school within the international masters program in history of the Finnish-Russian Cross-Border University (FRCBU).
Masters and teachers of FRCBU representing Moscow State University, PetrSU, European University in St.-Petersburg, University of Helsinki and University of Joensuu, discuss the first variants od masters' dissertations to be defended in the end of 2009. Majoring in history of Finland and Scandinavian countries junior and senior students of the faculty of history of PetrSU also take part in work of the school. A Special class is devoted to presentation of reports on history of Karelia and Petrozavodsk prepared by masters of FRCBU. The school will work for three days, from May 28 to 30.

On May, 26-27, 2009 employees of PetrSU Professor Evgenia Markovskaya (Head of the Chair of Botany and Physiology of Plants) and Lyudmila Kulikovskaya (Head of the Directorate for International Cooperation) have taken part in the seminar on the subject ofArctic biology/ecology - network creation in the university of Tromsø, Norway.
More than 10 scientific and educational institutions of Moscow, St.Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Murmansk, Syktyvkar, Apatity, Tromsø, Svalbord have presented their universities, faculties, scientific centres. Participants have shared results of works on a number of scientific projects and expeditions in the Arctic region, have stated offers on further cooperation in the field of research of the North, development educational programs, opportunities of joint trainings and practices for students and teachers of Russia and Norway.

Meeting of Rector Anatoly Voronin and Deans of Faculties with the Governor of Oulu, Honourable Doctor of PetrSU Eino SiuruainenMeeting of Rector Anatoly Voronin and Deans of Faculties with the Governor of Oulu, Honourable Doctor of PetrSU Eino Siuruainen was held in the conference hall of Petrozavodsk State University.
The meeting was held right after signing the Memorandum on Cooperation between the two territories by the Governor Eino Siuruainen and Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov.
In Petrozavodsk State University participants of the meeting discussed some issues of reforming of the administrative system of Finland and changes in the system of education to be caused by reorganization of the administrative structure.
